Sam Maddula Creates Annual Scholarship at Temple University School of Pharmacy

Sam Maddula created the Maddula Foundation Annual Scholarship at Temple University School of Pharmacy to support students who are working hard in the classroom and giving their time to the communities around them.

Maddula received his pharmacy education from Rutgers’ Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, but Philadelphia is where he built his career. It is where he learned the pharmacy business, built a successful company and felt the Maddula Foundation could have the greatest initial impact.

Throughout his career, Maddula has met many talented people who did not lack ability or ambition. They simply had fewer resources, fewer connections or more responsibilities competing for their time. Financial support can give a student more room to focus on school and continue moving forward.

The scholarship is awarded annually to students at Temple University School of Pharmacy. Students are considered based on their academic performance, involvement in organizations, service to their local communities and how they use their time to help other people.

This year, four students received the scholarship. Each has managed the demands of pharmacy school while continuing to contribute outside the classroom. They have worked extremely hard to reach this point, often without access to the same resources available to others.

Scholarship money cannot remove every challenge that comes with pharmacy school. It can reduce some of the financial pressure and allow students to spend more time focused on their education, professional development and community involvement.

Maddula brought his daughter Ayla to this year’s ceremony. She is still too young to fully understand what a scholarship is or what it takes to become a pharmacist, but he wanted her to be there.

It is important to Maddula that both of his daughters grow up seeing this part of their family’s life. He wants them to understand that success carries a responsibility to help other people and that giving back should be part of how they live.

The Maddula Foundation Annual Scholarship will continue supporting Temple University pharmacy students each year. Maddula is proud of this year’s recipients and happy that the foundation can make their path a little easier.
